It is heartbreaking to see a family member fall ill, more so if we do not have the
means to get them treated.

Whether they are pets or ones that provide livelihood support, animals – for many
people – are family. And just the same for our two-legged loved ones, we also
want the best state of health and well-being for the animals we care for.

In many parts of the world though, this is neither a priority nor an option.
For poverty-stricken communities, it is easy to choose putting food on the table
over bringing the sick family dog to the vet. For a farmer suffering from poor harvests
the past years, updating vaccination for their cattle, unfortunately, cannot be part of the
family budget. For a random passerby rescuing a stray cat after a road traffic
accident, having to pay for the subsequent vet bills is just disheartening – and discouraging
for them to do the same good deed again. In many countries, veterinary services remain to be a luxury.

Heal a Paw (HAPi) exists to make veterinary services more available and accessible to animals and their people. We aim to harness the resources and expertise of volunteers and the generosity of institutional and individual donors to deliver free animal health care services to indigent communities, rescue groups and individuals, and animal welfare organizations in developing countries.
